Rant: Parenthood

I know there are going to be some parent's that read this post and think GIRL you ain't seen nothing yet but I feel like I need to get this off my chest. So please.

This has been the hardest school year EVER! Not just for C.J but for my entire family. We've watched as our son's school made him a target, feel shamed, and tried to break him. We've spent countless hours, money and energy on making sure he behaved properly, worked hard (er) and maintained a sense of self only to breathe a HUGE sigh of relief that it is over. Now what's next?

In the last year I've learned more about good versus bad teachers, curriculum that I believe could be effective if the emphasis was actually learning not just passing a test and the lack of support a school will actually give you. And to say it's enough to make me want to home school is the understatement of the year. I've also spent too much time in a woe is me state but that ends today! I want so much for my boys, my husband wants even more for them than I do and so today we step up and not only become protectors of these little versions of us but strong advocates. We know that there are some things we need to change at home and we will do that but we also know that the current situation may be dimming the light of our child and We ain't got time for that (c) Sweet Brown.

*sigh* Being a parent is so hard man! So damn hard!

Event Review: 2013 Brooklyn Baby Expo

One June 2, 2013 I had the pleasure of attending the Brooklyn Baby Expo hosted by the fabulous ladies of A Child Grows in Brooklyn. Along with my two little ones I took the trip to my home of Brooklyn and oh my goodness, we have a great time! As soon as we stepped through the doors we were greeted by amazing vendors.

The kids were able to enjoy face painting, crafts and the plat de resistance, glitter tattoos from Dazzle Diva (CJ still has his two weeks later!) With so many vendors to visit, for ACGB bingo the in-house kid-zone was a great addition to the event. I was able to drop CJ and Le Munchkin off and hit the rooms and speak with each vendor about their products.

Having a 4 month old, I spent a lot my day learning about the latest in baby gear from the people at Britax and Stokke. As well as the cooking demo from Teeny Tiny Foodie on the best ways to introduce solids that are flavorful and nutritious.

It was such a pleasure to spend a sun-filled day with like minded parents, and learning about the latest and greatest in child rearing. Oh and look at how Le Munchkin was swagged out.

Thank you Kim and Nicole for allowing me to attend as press, hope to see you next year.!!

Oh and did I mention The Brooklyn Cyclones were there! CJ was not a fan of the mascot but the two lovely people at the vendor stand kept me in stitches!

Hmm I wonder if there will be a place for my Wellness blog at next years event. *makes mental note*
